A rise in the number of job adverts offering working from home could be an indicator of a more remote future.
Before the pandemic, 1% of the roles advertised on recruitment specialist Reed’s channels stated remote working; this rose to 5% in 2021.
The popularity of remote roles saw the number of applications shoot up, outpacing the number of job adverts available.
Despite this, two-thirds of businesses who took part in a recent survey, are considering cutting the pay of employees who opt to work from home.
A survey of 150 businesses by HR software provider CIPHR found 97% of respondents will allow staff to work from home at least some of the time post-lockdown.
But that may come with the condition of a drop in pay.
Rachel Suff, senior employment relations adviser at the CIPD, said to the BBC; “Rather than making sweeping decisions on issues like pay and how, where and when people work, businesses should aim to balance individual needs with the needs of the organisation.
“Businesses also need to stay attractive and cutting pay could prove to be a false economy if it turns talent away.”
Making a home working package as attractive as possible could be key to attracting the right candidate to your role.
What can you offer potential and current candidates?
If you are facing a remote working future, a remote workstation assessment is an important benefit to offer.
By working with Onhealth’s team, your staff will get one-to-one time with a medical professional (via a video call) who will analyse their remote workstation set-up, offer advice and guidance and then provide a detailed report for HR departments to use as the foundation for future actions and the maintenance of high standards which promote efficient working while based at home.
Boosting employee relations, avoiding unnecessary aches and pains which can lead to worse injuries further down the line, and limiting time off due to injury, using a remote workstation assessment scheme should be an important part of your benefits system.
