Making Stoptober Permanent: Take the Next Step

Have you considered making Stoptober permanent and ditching smoking for good?

After achieving a huge milestone by going one month without smoking, for many that will provide the inspiration to carry on and take that next step.

The benefits of this are varied and tangible, ranging from health improvements to financial gains to name just a couple.

Smoking can cause lung cancer, and increase your risk of heart disease and stroke, among a host of other health problems.

Cancer.org has detailed the near instant improvements a smoker would notice upon kicking the habit, which can be found here, but include:

  • 20 minutes after quitting; your heart rate and blood pressure drop
  • Two weeks to three months after quitting; your circulation improves and your lung function increases
  • Five to 10 years after quitting; your risk of cancers of the mouth, throat and voice box is cut in half. Your stroke risk decreases.

Financially, stopping smoking will save you pounds in the pocket with the average smoker spending around £3,300 a year on smoking.

With around two million fewer smokers in the UK, compared with a decade ago, now is the time to stop smoking.

The NHS Quit Smoking page said; “It’s never too late to benefit from stopping. Being smoke-free not only adds years to your life, but also greatly improves your chances of a disease-free, mobile, happier old age.”
