Business Community: Where Does Working from Home Fit?

After the initial surge in support from the business community, working from home has once again been put up for debate.

Leading CEO’s have wavered in their previous commitment to remote working, with Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group axing ‘Frasers Friday’ – a working from home day for some staff – due to a perceived lack of productivity.

In one LinkedIn video post, Steven Bartlett weighed in, saying: “You have to be clear and it’s not easy for CEO’s and managers because they’ve had this pressure to just allow remote working for everybody but that’s caused a lot of harm in a lot of cases.”

But a recent study by Owl Labs, based on the responses of 2,000 full-time employees across the UK, found that 37% said they are more productive when working from home, with a further 43% saying their productivity levels haven’t changed when working remotely.

It’s clear in the business community that employees are eager to see remote working, hybrid plans, and flexible working as an option in their job remit. It’s enough to lure people from other companies as staff shortages give increasing power to the candidate.

So having that as part of a staff benefits list is crucial to getting, and keeping, the best talent in the market. But it needs to be done correctly, diligently, and methodically. That’s why companies should be employing remote workstation assessment schemes to maximise the benefits of remote working.

What is a remote workstation assessment?

This is a chain of events designed to make the most out of a person’s remote working area. When they’re at home, their set-up may not be as standardised and regulated as an office space. This can lead to unorthodox layouts that can result in muscle injuries and other ailments which, if left to continue, can end up in long-term sickness and absence from work.

The medical professionals at Onhealth will remotely assess your employee’s home workplace through photographic and video evidence, before critically assessing it and providing tailored feedback to the individual.

A detailed evaluation is sent to the company to have on file, with a pathway for ongoing evaluation and development devised to ensure your employee feels valued by their employer and has the best possible remote working set-up.
