Another mass migration to remote working is expected on Monday as home working returns.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the re-introduction of heading back to homes to carry out the work day wherever possible as part of Plan B, a series of restrictions designed to limit the amount of contacts an employee has with others outside their household.
For many it will be a return to a familiar routine but for others it’s an unwelcome change to their daily habits.
How can you stay mentally well during WFH?
It is important to quickly set up a routine and stick to it. If you can structure your days, it allows you to acclimatise to change quicker and ensure you have things to look forward to, like a lunchbreak walk or time spent with a loved one to separate yourself from a workstation.
“Humans like routine and predictability, so it’s natural if you’re feeling a little thrown by any changes, especially if you’re also concerned about covid,” career coach and consultant Hannah Salton told the Independent.
“Try and focus on creating a good routine that works for you.”
Another important element of working from home is making that distinction between work life and home life. You may be ‘in the office’ all the time while remote working but close the computer at the end of the day and detach yourself from that part of life.
Otherwise, you’ll end up blurring the lines and focusing too much on work for too long. These are just a couple of the ways to help re-adjust to working from home. More can be found here.
How can your company help you during WFH?
By keeping in touch, line managers and HR departments can help alleviate feelings of isolation among staff. Words on a screen aren’t as impactful as a smile from a colleague. Checking in frequently can help staff feel included and valued.
Your company could also show they value you no matter where you are by offering a remote workstation assessment scheme.
How can Onhealth support companies through this?
By requesting a remote workstation assessment through Onhealth, your company can help employees in a number of ways when home working returns.
It lessens the likelihood of remote-working injuries due to bad posture, thus lessening days off sick as a result, and an inefficient work set-up and fosters positive relationships between staff and the organisation.
