Pilates can play an important part in a healthy lifestyle, promoting health and wellbeing alongside higher intensity sessions.
You will have heard of it but may not know the many benefits, with the assumption that, when exercising, you need to sweat to have a positive effect on your health.
This isn’t true. Here are just some of the reasons why Pilates could be for you:
It boosts flexibility
The movements, stretches, and holds promote stability, strengthening of joints and improved mobility in those that take part. With anything, the more you do it the greater the impact in these departments. If you feel yourself slouching at a desk while working, Pilates will help to improve your posture and ease any potential backaches and pains which result from your working day.
It improves your core
The actions involved in a Pilates session focus on core strength, which in turn helps strengthen and tone muscles including your abs, leading to a flatter stomach. Good core strength can benefit many different parts of the body but is often left out of other more intensive exercises.
It’s suitable for all
Due to the nature of the exercise, it is much more low impact and lower in intensity in comparison to say running, cycling, and spin classes. It provides an opportunity for all to exercise, regardless of age and weight, with the motions able to be adjusted to suit the individual’s experience in Pilates.
Lower intensity doesn’t mean lower impact, as you’ll feel like you’ve done an exercise session the day after!
