Health Benefits of Taking on Dry January 2022

You may already be feeling the health benefits of taking on Dry January 2022 now that you are over a week into it.

But there are far more positives than you may think, aside from the obvious ones. You might have noticed a few extra pounds in the bank account for starters, but the physical, tangible benefits will also start to materialise.

Your skin could look brighter, your sleep patterns may be improving, and a general, more positive outlook and better mood should be showing signs too.

Internally, a month of no alcohol will help to lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of diabetes, lower cholesterol and reduce levels of cancer-proteins in the blood.

Dr Tony Rao, in his blog on the Alcohol Change website, discusses the health benefits of taking on Dry January 2022, he said: “It’s easy to take your health for granted, especially if you feel fine.

“Many of us drink to relax, socialise or celebrate. But before we know it, alcohol can become a part of our everyday lives in a way that it starts to harm our bodies.

“What starts off as a routine can become a habit. When this habit becomes a problem, other people such as our family, friends or our GP might notice it first. We could easily ignore it but doing so might be dangerous.

“A month off alcohol has been scientifically proven to improve your overall health, particularly if you are drinking at levels that put your health at risk.”

Take Dry January beyond the 31 days and you’ll help to combat the potential of alcohol-related illnesses, of which there are more than 60 conditions, including liver disease, high blood pressure, depression and seven types of cancer.
