Menopause: Four out of Five Suggest no Workplace Support

Davina McCall recently shone the spotlight on menopause during an insightful documentary that highlighted some startling trends.

Featuring a 4,000-strong respondent survey, the findings showed 70% of the 45-55-year-old target group had suffered from brain fog due to menopause.

Nearly half said their ability to work was affected, with in excess of 80% admitting their workplace offered little or no support with problems associated with menopause and its impact on the body.

Discussing her own experiences during menopause, presenter McCall told the Channel 4 documentary: “Brain fog is horrific. When I had it, I couldn’t read autocues, something weird happened to my eyes, I couldn’t read celebrities’ names.

“I seriously thought I was going to have to give up presenting and when I was asked if I was okay I said ‘yes’.

“I was so full of shame about what was going on. I just couldn’t talk to people and it breaks my heart that ten years later women are still struggling, still ashamed of something that is completely natural.”

Menopause can show through a variety of symptoms, including hot flushes, night sweats, sleep problems, mood changes, palpitations, weight gain, and slowed metabolism.

The study found 10% had left their work because of symptoms, with one in 12 avoiding going for a promotion because of menopause.
