Anxieties For Those Returning to the Office

In just over two months, the UK lockdown roadmap sees the end of home-working on 21st June. But workers are set to return with a number of anxieties which may make them reluctant to do so.

A recently published article, discussing the results of a poll of 1,000 employees, found the top reasons to avoid working in the office included:

  • The commute to and from work
  • Less flexible working
  • Social distancing being ignored
  • Being in a room with lots of people
  • Having to wear a mask
  • Lack of personal space
  • Having to use office toilets
  • Touching door handles touched by other people
  • Others not using hand sanitiser/soap

Nearly six in 10 were uncomfortable about going back to their workplace, while 46% were apprehensive about a return.

People ignoring social distancing rules was a major anxiety too, with 42% of respondents nervous about that potentially being true in their office environment.

The study also asked workers what rules they’d like implemented in their office to off-set these anxieties, with half of those wanting social distancing between desks and seven in 10 seeking thorough cleanliness rules upon their return.

Four in five felt generally safer and cleaner working from home compared to being in the office.
